Community involvement and philanthropy are very important to all of us at ERS.  We all firmly believe that we can make a difference in someone’s life by taking just a moment or two to help… and to understand the impact it will have.  Each month we are going to showcase a not-for-profit organization that ERS is involved in. This month we will showcase Resurrection House.

Resurrection House

Resurrection House has a mission… to help families help themselves.  They offer transitional housing for motivated families with minor children who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.  In operation since 1987, they strive to help families recover stability and become self-sufficient.  In other words, they want to break the cycle of poverty by equipping participants with the skills needed to lead a stable life and to become a contributing member of the community.

How does it work?  First, it takes time and hard work.  Hard work that pays off as these families gain skills that will take them one step closer to breaking the welfare dependency.  And, that’s what it’s all about… families standing on their own.

Resurrection House offers programs in 7 areas:

1.     Case Management – Participants plan for success and learn how to implement those plans

2.     Counseling – Tackling each family and their unique issues, one at a time

3.     Life Skill Classes – Help in learning in general and mastering basic skills

4.     Childhood Education and Enrichment – Focusing on learning and literacy skills

5.     Transitional Housing for Program Participants – A safe and secure living environment for those who have made the commitment to work hard to achieve permanent change

6.     Community Outreach and Education – Promotes understanding of the causes of homelessness and the effect on the community

7.     Spiritual Development – Faith plays a critical role in attaining a balanced and healthy life

Resurrection House accomplishes all of this without any government funding.  For more information about the St. Petersburg Resurrection House and their programs, go to www.floridaresurrectionhouse.com or call 727.823.4742.
