The firms are chosen based on a survey of law firms that found improvements in policies relating to parental accommodations, but a “stagnant” use of family friendly policies. The survey also found that the percentage of women partners has not increased at participating law firms since 2008.
At the surveyed firms, 45 percent of associates were women, 19 percent of partners were women and 29 percent of lawyers promoted to partner in 2014 were women. Eleven percent of lawyers promoted to partner in 2014 were currently working or had previously worked part-time or flexible full-time schedules.
Forty-two percent of surveyed firms offered on-site childcare; 40 percent had policies allowing lawyers to take several years of leave with the option of returning to the law firm.
The survey also found an “emerging industry norm” of 18 weeks of family leave for primary caregivers and four weeks for secondary caregivers.
